Boteh Tamarindo Wallpaper Sample

Boteh is a wallpaper design from the Bharat ki Lori collection, or "Indian lullaby," a capsule collection inspired by the colors, traditions, and imagery of India.

This particular design is based on the buta decorative element—also known as boteh or paisley—a motif that has traveled through centuries and across vast territories, from ancient Persia to the looms of Kashmir, and from there to the rest of the world.

The most common buta is shaped like a curved teardrop, like a leaf, a seed, a flame, or an amoeba. It is an organic and flexible motif that transforms depending on the hand that draws it. It is an ambiguous motif, somewhere between the vegetal and the abstract, between what is clearly decorative and also deeply symbolic.

In my design, the motifs float on a striped background, which acts as a kind of warp upon which the ornament rests, organizing the movement and giving it a fresh and cheerful character.
